I collectively call my poems "IN and OUT of Darkness" because this is how life feels.
The subtitle, The Book of Jack, is because all my poems are called Jack. I had never previously named any of my work until Jeff at the poetry group said it is important. I responded that he made it sound like that the things you write are like children and as such should be named. He said yes that’s exactly it and then started to tell me a poor joke about a woman who had numerous children all called Jack. I told him, because of this I will call my poems Jack and then looked back and tried to organise them in some form of chronological order.
Not everything I write comes from a perspective of darker thoughts and experiences though. As my confidence in writing grew, based on comments received, regarding some of my work, I started to write more consciously about a wider range of subjects. I found that I was enjoying the creative process of considering broader issues and attempting to make some thought provoking comments. I’ve never been an overly political person or thought directly very much about the global environment and issues facing us. However, more recently I’ve found myself commenting on different areas of conflict and how we treat each other and the planet on various levels.
