Random thoughts of Christmas surface in my head
I write them down or they’ll never be said
Chestnuts never roasted
And cards not bought, let alone posted
Not cooking the dinner, worrying if it’ll be fine
Either way, not diving head first into the wine
People judging love with a price tag command
Invariably high price gifts, being the demand
The true value of Christmas, seemingly a thing of the past
It’s now, for some, about spending on credit that won’t last
Gone are the times when hugs and smiles were the measure
Now it’s months of worry and financial pressure
You could always refrain, a potentially sensible choice
But being seasonally frugal, is an unusual voice
These are some things that I either never did or no longer do
There’s still freedom of choice though, so merry Christmas to you
